This volume was written started out being written jointly by Annie S. D. Maunder and her husband Edward Walter Maunder, soon after they started her husband was not able to continue in the venture so the book was almost entirely written by Annie. The book discusses the relationship between the Earth and the Sun, going into detail of the Sun's magnetic field and sunspots. The book also describes the photographic studies of the Milky Way done by Edward E. Barnard. One of the things that collectors like about this book is the very decorative cover that shows a starry sky and the Milky Way.
