This image was taken a few miles south and west of Lawrence, KS from above the Clinton Lake Dam. The photograph was taken just before clouds obscured the comet and before it got dark enough to capture the ion tail.

July 13, 2020. Comet NEOWISE C/2020 F3.

Unguided photograph with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera attached to an Olympus 35 mm f/2.8 lens. This image is a single 2 second exposure. This image was taken a few miles south and west of Lawrence, KS from above the Clinton Lake Dam. The shims that I added to the camera adapter solved the issue with the out of focus stars.

July 12, 2020. Comet NEOWISE C/2020 F3.

Unguided photograph with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera attached to an Olympus 50 mm f/1.4 lens. 2 second exposure. This image was taken a few miles east of Lawrence, KS from the side of a county road. The adapter that I used to connect the vintage Olympus lens to the CMOS camera is one that I made many years ago but never used it until now. I discovered that the lens' optical axis was not perpendicular to the camera focal plane which resulted in star images that would not come to a complete focus. I had to use a lot of deconvolution to get the star images so that they were round, resulting in a lot of processing artifacts. I added some shims to the adapter and I will try taking some more images tomorrow morning if it remains clear.

March 13, 2013. Comet Pan-STARRS.

Unguided photographed with an Olympus OM1 mounted on a tripod, an Olympus 500mm telephoto lens, and Ilford Delta 3200 ASA B&W film. Approximately a 5 second exposure taken from the Clinton Lake Reservoir south of Lawrence, KS. The film was developed at 1600 ASA.
