The Barritt-Serviss Star and Planet Finder Southern Hemisphere - circa 1906

This is an early version of the star finder by Barritt-Serviss, made shortly after 1906, since the bottom corner shows that it was published by Leon Barritt rather than "The Monthly Evening Sky Map", which indicates that it is an earlier version. This is a southern hemisphere version, which is more rare than the northern hemisphere versions. A previous owner of this planisphere made a wonderful hardwood box for storing the planisphere. The sides of the box are joined with dovetails, showing the care that the person took to keep this planisphere safe. The bottom board of the planisphere appears to be a thin sheet of cardboard with a black textured paper covering. The rivets all appear to be original along with the meridian string.
