"Results of Astronomical Observations Made During the Years 1834, 5, 6, 7, 8 at the Cape of Good Hope" by John Herschel 1847

Here is John Herschel's most substantial work, which is a compilation of the results of his astronomical observations made at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa during the time period between 1834 and 1838, and was published in 1847. This is a presentation copy that was given to Henry Fox Talbot, who along with John Herschel was one of the pioneers of photography, which makes this a rather special copy. The objective of John Herschel's work in South Africa was to complete the catalog of nebulae and star clusters that was started by his father William Herschel.
