Four Constellation Prints from "Ars Magna Lucis et Umbrae" by Athanasius Kircher - 1646
Here is a print of four constellations from Athanasius Kircher's "Ars Magna Lucis et Umbrae" (The Great Art of Light and Shadow) that was published in Rome in 1646. Of all my references on celestial cartography only Nick Kanas mentions any of Kircher's work, but he does not mention "Ars Magna Lucis et Umbrae". Deborah Warner does not mention any of Kircher's publications in her book "The Sky Explored" but she does mention that Kircher submitted a map for Stanislas Lubieniczki's "Theatrum Cometicum".
