Publications of the Lick Observatory, Vol. I - 1887

Here is a copy of the first volume of the "Publications of the Lick Observatory" published in 1887 and prepared by Edward Holden, who served as the first Lick Observatory director from 1887 to 1897. Most of the actual work in preparing this first volume was done by the astronomer James Keeler, who would become the observatory's second director. This particular volume was a presentation copy from the Lick Trustees to the Hon. John T. Doyle of Menlo Park California. There is also a bookplate that belonged to Monsignor Joseph M. Gleason (1869-1942) who was a Catholic priest, historian, and collector of books and photographs (see https://www.jstor.org/stable/3633294). The frontispiece shows Mount Hamilton in 1886 before the installation of the 36 inch refractor. This volume describes the equipment and facilities as they existed in 1887 along with meteorological records, geographical information, and other miscellaneous things like refraction tables, etc...
