Flora Herscheliana by Brian Warner and John Rourke - 1998
Flora Herscheliana is a collection of botanical drawings made by Sir John and Lady Herschel at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa between 1834 to 1838. Sir John Herschel's botanical studies are one of the least recognized fields that he worked in. His observations of the different plant species may have laid some of the foundations for Charles Darwin's Origin of Species during Darwin's visit with the Herschel at the Cape in 1836. Sir John Herschel did the sketches using a camera lucida and Lady Herschel did the hand coloring. There are about 120 drawings featured in this volume. This copy is one of the standard editions where 850 copies were published.
