Photograph of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS taken with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera, and a 3-8mm zoom lens mounted on a barn door tracker. This image consists of 12 thirty second exposures captured with ASILive. I measured the comet's tail to be about 15 degrees in length from this image. Photograph of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS taken with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera, and Pentax 28mm f/3.5 lens mounted on a barn door tracker. This image consists of single 15 second exposure captured with ASILive. This image was taken through some clouds that formed at sunset. This image was taken from the Colyer Cemetery southwest of Lawrence, KS.

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS C/2023 A3 October 14, 2024 at 1:53 UT

Photograph of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS taken with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera, and Pentax 28mm f/3.5 lens mounted on a barn door tracker. This image consists of 12 twenty second exposures captured with ASILive. This image was taken through cirrus clouds which made it hard to see the comet with the naked eye. I enhanced the image to bring out the anti-tail. This image was taken from the Colyer Cemetery southeast of Lawrence, KS.

Comet NEOWISE C/2020 F3 July 13, 2020

Unguided photograph with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera attached to an Olympus 35 mm f/2.8 lens. This image is a single 2 second exposure. This image was taken a few miles south and west of Lawrence, KS from above the Clinton Lake Dam. The shims that I added to the camera adapter solved the issue with the out of focus stars.

Comet NEOWISE C/2020 F3 July 12, 2020

Unguided photograph with a ZWO ASI178 color CMOS camera attached to an Olympus 50 mm f/1.4 lens. 2 second exposure. This image was taken a few miles east of Lawrence, KS from the side of a county road. The adapter that I used to connect the vintage Olympus lens to the CMOS camera is one that I made many years ago but never used it until now. I discovered that the lens' optical axis was not perpendicular to the camera focal plane which resulted in star images that would not come to a complete focus. I had to use a lot of deconvolution to get the star images so that they were round, resulting in a lot of processing artifacts. I added some shims to the adapter and I will try taking some more images tomorrow morning if it remains clear.
