ZWO ASI Camera Images

First Quarter Moon - Jan. 29, 2023, 1:05 UT

This image of the first quarter moon was taken with my ZWO ASI178MC camera and my new ASIair Plus controlling both the camera and my Meade LXD650 mount. The ASIair Plus was operated from a Samsung Tab S6 tablet running the ASIair App with the camera shutter speed set to 1/1000 second. The image was captured by recording a video on the ASIair and then transferring it to my desktop followed by stacking it with Registax 5, where I stacked 900 frames. The ASIair App appears to crop the video files more than in the preview mode. This observing session was the first time that I used the ASI EAF focusing unit. The primary purpose for this observing session was to test the video recording capability of the ASIair and to test the EAF focuser unit.

Waxing Gibbous Moon - Dec. 31, 2022, 23:18 UT

This image of the waxing gibbous moon was taken with my ZWO ASI178MC camera and my new ASIair Plus controlling both the camera and my Meade LXD650 mount. The image consists of 88 still frames stacked with AutoStakkert and final processing with Neat Image, Astra Image, and Photoshop CS2.

Waxing Crescent Moon - Nov. 1, 2022

Lunar terminator mosaic from five photographs taken between 2:10 UT and 2:35 UT using my 8 inch SCT and ZWO ASI178MC astronomical camera. The exposure setting was 5 milliseconds. The videos were stacked with AutoStakkert!, wavelets were applied to the stacked images with Registax, and the mosaic was done using Photoshop.

I had just finished cleaning my old 6 inch Newtonian after 20+ years of neglect in order to take it to an observing session, sponsored by the local astronomy club, for 150+ boy scouts. Seeing conditions were poor to average. Exposure was ~1/200 second at ISO 125.

Olympus astro camera with a Meade LXD55 8 inch SCT and 25mm eyepiece. 1/4 second exposure on Kodak ASA 200 color print film. Print was scanned and then enhanced using Lucy-Richardson deconvolution and then adjusted in Paint Shop Pro and finally noise filtering was applied with Neat Image.

I originally, had stated that the image was taken between November 2002 and April 2003, but with the aid of Virtual Moon Atlas I was able to narrow the date down to about January 12, 2003.

Celestron 8 inch SCT, and homemade 3 1/4 inch x 4 1/4 inch sheet film camera at the prime focus. I don't have the exposure time recorded. I recall that we used the old hat trick for exposing the film. This image was scanned from the negative and enhanced with PhotoShop CS2 and Astra Image 4.0. Image processing was done with PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, Astra Image and Neat Image. The original images were way off in color (red) due to the film that I had used at the time was expired.
