SN 2026sqf in NGC 3310, July 27, 2026 at 3:45 UT

SN 2026sqf in the galaxy NGC 3310 was discovered on July 8, 2026 by the amateur astronomer Patrick Wiggins. The bright moonlight of the Waxing Gibbous Moon washed out most of the details of NGC 3310, but the supernova was not affected much since it is relatively bright. NGC 3310 is at a distance of about 42.7 million light years, which means that the star that produced this supernovae exploded about 42.7 million years ago. SN 2026sqf is classified as a Type II supernova, which resulted from the core collapse of a supergiant star that will leave behind either a neutron star or a black hole. This image consists of 38 thirty second exposures. Post processing was done with Siril, GraXpert, PixInsight, and The Gimp.
